About Lustre de chambre à coucher

Start with a size that feels right beside your bed, a hanging height that fits, and light that is comfortable from your pillow.

Low ceiling? Compare shallow designs first. Read in bed? Plan a bedside light too. Use the guide to narrow your shortlist, then check the exact size and lighting option before ordering.

How to choose a bedroom chandelier

What size will look right?

Room size gives you a starting point. Your bed and the shape of the light help you judge the balance.

Fixture width Room length (ft) Room width (ft)
Example fixture footprint, not a recommended hanging position.
Starting sizes, not product sizes or a guarantee of fit
Bedroom sizeStarting width
10 × 10 ft
3.0 × 3.0 m
20 in / 51 cm
12 × 12 ft
3.7 × 3.7 m
24 in / 61 cm
12 × 14 ft
3.7 × 4.3 m
26 in / 66 cm

Use the size chart above, then mark a candidate's actual width with tape or cardboard. View it from the doorway and bed: dense shades can look larger than open frames of the same width.

How are these sizes estimated?

Room length (ft) + room width (ft) ≈ starting fixture width (in)

A styling shortcut, not a unit conversion or a guarantee of fit. Use feet for the room and inches for the light. Metric table values are rounded.

Where should it hang?

Choose a focal point, then check how far the light hangs down.

Room center
A room-centred focal point.
Over the bed
A bed-centred focal point.
Near the bed end
Keep the walking route clear.

Top views: the blue shape with pillows is the bed; the gold circle is the light. The room and bed stay in the same position; only the light moves. These are layout examples, not installation drawings. Check doors, wardrobes and any ceiling fan too.

Check the full hanging length

Ceiling heightTotal dropFloor clearance
Total drop includes the suspension and light body, from ceiling to the lowest point. Not to scale.

Low ceiling? Compare shallow designs and their minimum total drop, not just cord length. Above a bed, consider sitting up and making the bed. Ask your installer to confirm the final position and support.

See a clearance calculation

Floor clearance = ceiling height − total drop

Example only: 108 in − 24 in = 84 in (approximately 274 − 61 = 213 cm). This is not a recommended minimum clearance or installation approval.

Will the light feel comfortable?

Think about lying down, reading and getting ready—not just how the light looks when switched off.

For winding down

Prefer a warmer look? Start with Warm White. From your pillow, check whether bulbs or bright LED surfaces would be directly visible.

For reading in bed

Add a bedside reading light where you need it. The chandelier does not need to light every task.

For adjustable brightness

Remote or wall dimmer? Check that the selected option supports your preferred control. Changing brightness does not necessarily change light colour.

Which look suits your room?

Choose a shape and finish that work with your headboard, bedding and bedside lights. If these already have bold details, compare simpler designs. Check cleaning needs too. Built-in LED or replaceable bulbs are a separate choice, covered below.

Compare appearance and upkeep

Shade / frameAppearance and care
Fabric or woven shadeAdds texture. From your pillow, check for visible bulbs. Follow the care instructions; a fabric shade does not always mean soft light.
Glass or crystalFor sparkle, compare clear glass or crystal; for a softer look, compare frosted glass. Check visible bulbs and cleaning.
Open frameAn open frame can look less bulky, but may leave bulbs visible. Check the view from bed and access for cleaning.
Before you order
  • Confirm the selected option's width, body height and full hanging range.
  • Check the planned position against the bed, doors, wardrobes and walking path.
  • Compare the light source, colour-temperature and dimming details for the selected option.
  • Ask a qualified installer to confirm ceiling support and final installation requirements.

Bedroom chandelier questions

Does a king-size bed need a bigger chandelier?

Bed size alone does not determine fixture width. Compare the room, ceiling height and actual fixture outline. A wide open frame can appear lighter than a smaller dense shade; use the sizing guide above to test your shortlist.

What if my bedroom has a low ceiling?

Compare the minimum ceiling-to-bottom length first. A short cord does not make a tall light body shallow. If your chosen fixture cannot fit the planned clearance, compare a compact semi-flush or flush-mounted design.

Are bedroom chandeliers dimmable?

It depends on the selected fixture, bulbs and dimming system. Check that the option you plan to order works with your wall dimmer or remote. Not every LED fixture or bulb works with every dimmer.

Should I choose built-in LED or replaceable bulbs?

Replaceable bulbs let you change the bulb when needed and choose among compatible options. With built-in LED (integrated LED), check whether the light source can be replaced and how to get replacement parts. Confirm the exact lighting option before ordering.

Can I keep a ceiling fan and add a chandelier?

Ask your installer to check the space covered by the rotating fan blades against the chandelier's position. A separate electrical point and suitable spacing may be needed. Do not choose a hanging position from a styled photograph alone.
